The Audio Production Course takes place in a working studio (Studio 501) and is designed to give the student hands-on experience in producing and engineering music. It is a highly specialized program focused on all technical aspects of sound production. This is a 12-week course that covers 3 main focus areas: Pro Tools 101, Audio Production & Spiritual Development.
The first area of focus is Pro Tools, which is one of the best sounding, most widely-used audio production software in the industry; it enables you to record, compose, edit, and mix with great speed and ease.
The second area of focus is Audio Production; in this part of the school students can expect to learn all about hardware equipment used in a recording school as well as in live shows. They will learn terminology which is vital for communication when working with producers, musicians, and other engineers.
The third focus is spiritual development; throughout the course students will grow in a number of ways on a spiritual level with teachings such as: Walking in your Calling, Conflict Resolution, Personality Testing, Difficult Questions of Christianity, and Missions in the Entertainment Industry.
In the Audio Production Course, you will gain a solid foundation in both Pro Tools and Audio Production. By learning and using relevant software, hardware and terminology, you will finish this course with a solid foundation for working in a recording studio.
You will also learn the basics of music theory and will run live sound at our community meetings on Thursday nights. You will also have the opportunity to work with and record our Fall DTS students who are in the Music Elective.
The primary purpose of Studio 501 is to facilitate those with a desire to serve God in the music industry by imparting not only technical skills but also social and spiritual knowledge to work with others in the entertainment industry at a professional level.
We want to see students who are well equipped with all of the technical knowledge they can receive in order to “GO” and make Jesus’ known in the music industry. Our goal is to see students discipled and equipped in order to be a light in such a dark industry.
I began working nights and weekends in a local recording studio while serving with YWAM, Idaho. After 4 years there, my wife, Lisa, and I were called to join YWAM in Lakeside. I have been able to serve in our recording studio since 1990. In addition to overseeing Studio 501, I also served as the director of our arts department and head of our security team for 7 years. In 1992, I began teaching and was challenged to establish the School of Audio Engineering & Production with the goal of releasing audio engineers and music producers into the music industry as missionaries. In addition, I have had the opportunity to engineer hundreds of music projects of extreme variety in both language and genre. I love what God has allowed me to be part of here in Montana.
At YWAM Montana-Lakeside, we are all about doing whatever it takes to know God and to make Him known, together! We’d love to help you make that next step in your global missions education. Apply now!
