Summer of Sports (SOS) is an outreach training program that uses various team sports as tools to share the gospel. Athletes are trained physically as well as spiritually, then released to use their skills in an outreach setting. The program includes the first few weeks of training followed by an overseas outreach and a time of debriefing. The Summer of Sports contributes to the overall goals and objectives of YWAM in the areas of evangelizing and discipling nations by providing training in a sphere of influence that is world wide. By learning how to share biblical principles through sports as well as focusing on improving the gift of athletics, students find that they are able to meet people where they are. By using their common interest in sports to build relationships with people, it creates a bond of trust, opening doors of the heart, allowing God to work through them in order to reach people that others are not able to reach.

Lecture Phase

During your first weeks here in Lakeside, mornings are spent in worship and lecture with the Summer of Dance and Musicians Summer of Service programs learning about cross-cultural evangelism, prayer and intercession, the Father heart of God, public speaking, identity in Christ, and other powerful topics. You will also spend time in small groups growing through one-on-one discipleship from Summer of Sports staff. Your afternoons are spent in team practices, working hard and getting to know each other. When all is said and done, your fellow athletes will be some of your best friends!

Class Time

Mornings start out with worship and lecture, which is a powerful time of growing in identity in Christ, overcoming life hurdles, and moving foward in your relationship with the Father.

Team Practice

Afternoons are spent building skills in different sports and team activities, growing in team unity, and spending time getting physically fit.

Personal Devotional Times

Time is given each day to spend time soaking in God's word and growing in your relationship with him. This is also a great time to process with God what you have been learning during the week.

Prayer, Worship, Intercession

We join with the whole base for corporate times and also have our own personal times of worship.

Work Duties

At YWAM Montana we believe in a servant-hearted attitude and lifestyle. So as a part of the school curriculum, you will serve in different areas on our campus  during the week. You will serve in areas like: Meal prep, Meal clean-up, housekeeping, facilities, maintenance, etc.

Additional Weekly Group Activities

Additional activities throughout the time may include hiking in Glacier National Park, bonfires, barbecues, swimming in Flathead Lake, Tubing down the Swan River and other fun adventures.

After lecture phase, athletes suit up for an overseas outreach. Some typical SOS outreach activities include: facilitating sports camps, competition with local athletes, serving churches and ministries in practical ways, and friendship evangelism. Athletes will be challenged to share their values in the game, as well as their faith in words. The team will return to Lakeside for a time of debriefing.
