Summer of Dance

Summer of Dance (SOD) is an outreach training program that uses dance as a tool to share the gospel. The YWAM Montana Lakeside Summer of Dance trains dancers physically as well as spiritually and then releases them to use their gifts in a foreign nation on outreach. The first few weeks of the program will be spent here in Lakeside, Montana where you will train, attend lectures, and hone your skills through dance technique classes and rehearsals. Summer of Dance will prepare you to go out and share who God is by using both words and dance. Topics during the lecture phase include ‘Foundations of the Christian Faith’, ‘The Character and Nature of God’, ‘Worship and Intercession’, ‘Relationships’, ‘Evangelism’, ‘Creativity’ and more.

The lecture phase is followed by an overseas outreach where you will get to use your gifts on the mission field.  The outreach time will take the students cross-culturally, enabling them to utilize their gifts and skills in sharing the Gospel. Each outreach concludes with a debriefing time designed to help students process through their entire experience.

The Summer of Dance’s goal is to see young people discipled and sent out to evangelize in the nations of the world. Dance can be used to bring together people from every background and nationality. The Summer of Dance seeks to use the art of dance as a door into the lives of people who may have never heard the good news of Jesus. In the SOD you will be equipped to evangelize and disciple the nations while using the talent and passion that God has given you for dancing. By learning how to share biblical principles through dance and improving your technical skills, you will find that you are able to meet people right where they are.  Dance can provide an open door to the hearts of people who might otherwise be closed off to hearing the Good news of Christ.

Weekly Schedule

During this intense lecture phase we begin to work as a team by developing friendships and unity which prepare us to go to another country and share who Jesus is with other people. It’s a lot of work, but very rewarding to see everything come together for the glory of God. By the end of Summer of Dance your fellow teammates will be some of your best friends. You will grow in the Lord and develop your skills as a dancer and communicator. Dancers are encouraged to worship God with dance as they train and prepare to use their talent cross-culturally for the advancement of God’s kingdom. Summer of Dance runs alongside our other Summer Programs, and we are privileged to join with them for morning prayer, worship, and lectures. We also take time for reflection in both smaller groups and one-on-one settings with program leaders.

Additional Weekly Group Activities 5 Hours/Week

5 Hours/Week

Additional activities throughout the time may include hiking in Glacier National Park, bonfires, barbecues, swimming in Flathead Lake, Tubing down the Swan River and other fun adventures.

The most exciting part of outreach is seeing God open unexpected doors for us to share our faith through movement and words. We often participate in dance performances, teach dance workshops, and serve in practical ways on outreach. Our ministry venues may include streets, dance studios, marketplaces, schools, universities, churches, and homeless shelters.
